Like most Indian Start ups we started out of a " Co working Space" in Bengaluru. On a wall by the entrance, it was mandatory to display the signage of the companies working inside. There were about 35 companies working inside our co working space. Over the next few months I noticed that about 6-7 signages changed every month. We got to know later from the Hub Manager that about 20 % of start ups shut shop every month. So what is the probability of a start up succeeding. If capability to raise a seed round is a measure then the probability is 10 % and if it is a Series A is a measure then it dips to below 1 %. The trick to getting from an idea to a unicorn is to identify a pain point with a huge scale, create a product/ process to solve it and then execute the hell out out of it. Idea is 10% of the business, product is 20% and the rest is execution, execution, execution.
